Who are you?
I’d describe myself as an indie artist who makes nostalgic music, but I don’t think everything I make is necessarily about nostalgia. A lot of my music comes from whatever I’m feeling or going through in my life. Sometimes it’s sad, sometimes hopeful, sometimes nostalgic, and sometimes it’s just about a feeling that I can’t really explain any other way.
A lot of what I’m drawn to right now is the feeling of wanting a life that isn’t the one you’re currently living. Wanting to go somewhere else, find peace somewhere else, meet new people, experience new places, and maybe find something about yourself along the way. I like the idea that sometimes you have to leave what you know to understand what you were actually looking for, and that changing places and meeting people can lead you to something you didn’t even realize you needed.
I try to experiment with my music too, while still keeping the identity of what I make in mind. I don’t want to feel trapped in one sound, but I also don’t want to lose what makes the music feel like mine. I’m still learning a lot, and I want that to be part of the process, trying new things, facing challenges, improving, and seeing where I can take the music.
I’m currently working on a song that I’m putting a lot of myself into. It’s very connected to my life and the things I’ve been feeling lately, and I want it to capture this period of my life as honestly as possible. I honestly don’t know when it will be released yet, and I don’t want to put a date on it just for the sake of having one. I want to take my time with it, keep working on it, and make it as close as possible to what I hear in my head before I decide that it’s ready to be out there.
I’m also making the entire song in a new DAW, which is definitely a challenge for me, but it’s one I’m willing to take because I feel like it can help me make the song the way I actually hear it in my head. I’m still figuring things out, and I think that’s part of what makes being an artist exciting for me. I want to keep discovering new things about myself and my music as I go.
